Prostate Cancer

When Joseph was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he found himself facing the same questions that thousands of patients face every year. What treatment should I choose? Who can I trust? And how do I know I’m making the right decision?

For Joseph, the answer came from someone who had already walked the road ahead of him. A close friend and fellow prostate cancer survivor had been treated and after hearing firsthand about the experience, Joseph’s path became clear. “When someone you trust has been through it and comes out the other side, you listen.”

While researching his options, Joseph learned about proton therapy and its ability to precisely target cancer while helping spare nearby healthy tissue. Compared to traditional radiation, the targeted nature of proton therapy gave him confidence that he was pursuing the treatment approach that felt right for him. The decision was quick. The peace of mind lasted throughout his treatment.

“I’d heard stories about how being in cancer treatment can make everyday life difficult, nothing major stood in my way,” Joseph recalls. Fatigue was his primary challenge, but even then, the ProCure team was there with guidance, resources, and support to help him manage it along the way.

What Joseph remembers most, however, isn’t the treatment itself. It’s the people. As a military veteran and former railroad manager, Joseph spent decades leading teams and working alongside people from all walks of life. Along the way, he developed a strong sense for character.

“You learn how to tell when people genuinely care about what they do and the people they’re serving.”

From his very first visit, that’s exactly what he experienced at ProCure. The team remembered the little things. Conversations from previous visits. Personal preferences. Details that reminded him he wasn’t just another appointment on the schedule. At one visit, Joseph mentioned a favorite type of music. At his next appointment, it was playing when he came in. “It’s a small thing,” he says. “But small things tell you a lot about people.”

Those moments reinforced what he had already come to believe. “Everybody there is passionate about what they do. They’re sincere. They’re committed to helping people. And as a patient, you can feel that.”

Today, Joseph is one of more than 8,000 patients who have trusted ProCure with their care. His message to anyone facing a cancer diagnosis is simple: Take the time to understand your options. Ask questions. Talk to people who have been there. And find a team that treats you like more than a patient. Because when you’re facing cancer, the treatment matters. But so do the people beside you every step of the way.
