Proton therapy is effective in treating many types of cancerous and non-cancerous tumors.
At our ProCure facilities, your treatment is tailored exactly to your individual cancer. Your tumor is measured and analyzed at the beginning of each session, and then custom-fabricated copper apertures and compensators are created, which are the exact shape and size necessary to accurately target your tumor with radiation. Even your treatment bed, which you lie on during your treatment, is customized so you are as comfortable as possible.
At ProCure, we provide state-of-the-art proton therapy in a supportive environment that focuses not only on your cancer treatment, but also on your overall well-being, so you can heal faster and get back to your life. This support is led by a team of individuals who will stay with you throughout your entire course of treatment and remain involved during your follow-up care. Having the same care team throughout therapy means you have consistent care.
Your personal care team is completely committed to providing you with exceptional patient care in a healing environment.
Patient Services team will help make your visits to ProCure as comfortable as possible.
Your Radiation Oncologist will meet with you once a week to review your progress and discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
Care Team Nurse will provide day-to-day care and help coordinate any additional medical services you might need during your proton treatment including: arranging for blood tests, scans, medical appointments or other additional services you need.
Radiation Therapists will make sure you are positioned properly for your treatment sessions and be close at hand while you receive therapy.
Dosimetrists collaborate with your doctor to prepare a treatment plan specific to your situation. They calculate the angles and doses of proton energy required to treat your tumor, while ensuring your healthy tissue is exposed to as little radiation as possible. They will work closely with the radiation therapists throughout your course of treatment.
Medical Physicists assure the safe and effective delivery of radiation by monitoring the equipment and procedures used in therapy. They run patient-specific checks on the plan created especially for your treatment to be sure you receive the correct dose of protons targeted precisely to your tumor.
Treatment Team Machinist will greet you when you arrive at the Center and help you prepare for your treatment session.
At ProCure Therapy Centers, our doctors and care team members are in regular contact with you, to support you before, during, and even after your treatment. Here we highlight the different stages of the treatment experience, to give an idea of how the process works at a ProCure facility.
Initial consultationDuring the beginning of our process, a physician review board will evaluate your case and determine if you can benefit from proton therapy. Once this process has concluded, and if it has been determined that you could benefit from proton therapy, we will schedule an in-person consultation with you.
Planning sessionAt your in-person consultation, you will meet with your doctor and nurse to discuss your treatment plan. Once your personal treatment plan is complete, a radiation therapist from your Care Team will contact you. He or she will tell you how many treatments your doctor has prescribed and schedule your first appointment for proton therapy.
Treatment sessionsMost patients are scheduled for therapy 5 days a week, excluding weekends and holidays, for a period of 4-7 weeks. Your schedule will depend on your diagnosis and the best approach to deliver proton therapy for your precise needs.
Doctor check-insYou will meet with your doctor (radiation oncologist) at least once a week to discuss how your therapy is progressing. Your doctor may order additional tests such as blood tests, CTs, MRIs, or other scans during the course of your treatment. If you have specific needs or questions, a doctor is available for you at any time.
Completing therapyDuring the last week of your therapy, the treatment team will honor you and celebrate the completion of your proton journey. It is a special time for patients and their loved ones to exchange experiences and thank the friends they’ve met along the way.
Follow-up careWe’re dedicated to you while you’re here and after you leave. Follow-up care is extremely important. Your Care Team will remain in contact with you and your referring physician after you've completed treatment. We focus on giving you what you need to return to a normal life as quickly as possible.
Reading about the patient experience at ProCure is one thing, but actually seeing a patient’s journey during his treatment can be much more helpful. That’s why we’ve provided these videos that follow a real patient during his time at a ProCure Therapy Center to give you an idea of what it’s like to go through proton therapy treatment at a ProCure center.
