Center in development
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), a leading adult and pediatric cancer center, is joining ProCure Treatment Centers in developing a proton therapy center in Seattle, Washington. The center broke ground in January 2011 and is expected to begin treating patients in Spring 2013. The center will be the first in the Pacific Northwest to offer proton therapy to patients with cancer.
SCCA Proton Therapy, A ProCure Center will be located on the campus of Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in North Seattle. At capacity, the center will accommodate approximately 1,400 patients a year.
The need for a proton therapy center in the area is great. According to statistics from the American Cancer Society, more than 70,000 people in the Pacific Northwest were diagnosed with cancer in 2010. Approximately 60 percent of patients will seek radiation therapy at some point during their care and many of these patients could benefit from proton therapy.
