ProCure Treatment Centers, Inc. (ProCure) is a privately held healthcare company that provides proton therapy to patients with cancer. ProCure’s comprehensive approach begins with the development of proton therapy centers and continues through the delivery of clinical care.

ProCure was founded by John Cameron, Ph.D., to improve the lives of patients with cancer by increasing access to proton therapy. Dr. Cameron, a pioneer in the field of particle physics, played a pivotal role in the creation of the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute (MPRI), Bloomington, Ind., the third proton therapy center to be developed in the United States. When Dr. Cameron founded ProCure in 2005, he brought together a skilled senior management team of proton therapy experts, who, prior to joining ProCure, played a role in advancing proton therapy technology, construction and operation at a number of the centers currently operating or under development in the United States and internationally.

ProCure Proton Therapy Centers

ProCure is the first to develop a network of proton therapy centers in cities across the United States.

• ProCure’s first center, the ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma City, opened July 8, 2009, a world-record 27 months after breaking ground.
• The CDH Proton Center, A ProCure Center, opened Oct. 19, 2010, in Warrenville, Ill., a western suburb of Chicago, setting a new world record construction timeline of 24 months.
• ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Somerset, N.J. (opening 2012) and SCCA Proton Therapy, A ProCure Center (opening 2013) are under construction. Other ProCure centers are in development in Detroit and South Florida.

ProCure’s Training and Development Center (TDC)

ProCure’s TDC is the world's first and only facility dedicated exclusively to proton therapy training and development.

The TDC:

• offers advanced clinical, technical, interpersonal and administrative training geared specifically to the needs of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists and other staff involved in proton therapy treatment
• features three treatment simulators:
• Inclined-beam room that simulates the beam’s ability to be brought in at two angles:  horizontal and 60 degrees inclined from the horizontal
• Gantry room that simulates the beam rotating 360 degrees around the patient
• Fully operational CT scanner, a state-of-the-art CT scanner with 4D capabilities that trains radiation therapists to define or “map” the location of the tumor to enable precise treatment with the beam
• offers before-the-job training, enabling staff to be ready to treat patients before a proton center is opened, ensuring that patient treatments can begin in an efficient and safe manner

ProCure Proton Therapy Technology Development

ProCure is advancing the technology used in proton therapy through the development of clinical innovations such as:

• the Inclined Beam Room – a new treatment delivery design and technology that replaces the need for multiple full-gantry treatment rooms
• Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) – a robotic-based X-ray imaging system developed to ensure precise patient positioning and accurate alignment for treatment, an advance for both proton and photon radiation treatments
• Robotic Patient Positioning System – a computer-controlled robotic arm developed to move patients precisely into position for treatment

ProCure Academic Affiliations

ProCure is supporting proton therapy education and research through the following alliances:

• A collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania to advance proton therapy training, research and development.  ProCure’s network of centers are linked into UPENN’s research protocols.
• A collaboration with Ivy Tech Community College, Bloomington, Ind., to offer a proton therapy certificate program that will train and credential students enrolled in the College’s Radiation Therapy Program.
• A collaboration with Oklahoma State University to create undergraduate and graduate programs in medical physics to train the next generation of medical professionals in delivering proton therapy.
