Hear about how ProCure started from founder John Cameron »

Our History

ProCure was founded in 2005 by John Cameron, PhD, a particle physicist who is among the pioneers in proton therapy. Dr. Cameron was instrumental in the development of the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute (now IU Health Proton Therapy Center), the third proton therapy center to open in the United States. ProCure was founded to carry out his mission: to improve the lives of patients with cancer by increasing access to proton therapy.

Dr. Cameron brought together a skilled senior management team of proton therapy experts that had been involved in the construction and operation of centers in the United States and internationally.

Today, ProCure is the only company in the world with four centers open and treating patients, others in development and a Training and Development Center that provides before-the-job training for all aspects of proton therapy treatment and patient care. The first center, the ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma City, opened in July 2009; the second center, CDH Proton Center, A ProCure Center in Warrenville, IL opened October 2010; the third center, ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Somerset, NJ opened March 2012; and the fourth center, SCCA Proton Therapy, A ProCure Center in Seattle, WA opened March 2013.
